Hi Debbie,
One thing I realized from our very first emails, you truly loved and cared for all your animals, both puppies and adults. I talked to many breeders, before I met you and I was never satisfied about their commitment to their animals. Once we started communicating, I knew that I was picking my puppy from one of your litters and even if I had to wait a year or six months, it would be worth the wait. You patiently and in depth answered all of my questions. I know I was a pest, but you never let on and my only goal was this desire to want to know everything about raising shih Tzu puppies.
Then you gave us the first, opportunity of adopting Lily and you can’t believe how honoured I felt. Of course at first, Yuris was worried that Simba may not adapt and that he would be unhappy. I had seen Lily enough to know that the two of them would be just fine and they would thrive together. With Lily, I can’t put my finger on what captivated me about her, but there was something special and unique about her, maybe it was the fact that she was the smallest of the pack but the leader just the same or maybe it was the way I watched her keep the on-watchers at a respective distance from her puppies and yet humans she trusted explicitly and showed total respect. Taking her home, it only got better, after a week with us, she settled down and we noticed how much she loved to run, just like Simba and now he had someone to chase and be chased by and finally do dog things, he was completely happy, but he did watch to see how the attention was being delved out. It wasn’t so much Yuris, but it was me he watched. I always kept it fair and I made sure everything was equal and over time we all have our special places and routines. When you look at the size of Simba and Lily it is hard to believe that he is her son as she is so tiny and refined looking, he definitely has the stature of Tonka.
One thing is for certain, both Lily and Simba are dearly loved and cherished by all of us and they have been great companions for Yuris, he would definitely have been lost without them. He went through a difficult time and they were there for him. We definitely think they have given us more then we have ever given them and there isn’t anything we wouldn’t do to protect or care for them. It is kind of a win-win situation for all of us and even Yuris’s mother who just lives for seeing the two of them. The last 3 years of her life have been difficult for her physically (95yrs old) and yet her spirit soars when she sees the two of them and I honestly feel it’s helped her cope the loss of her husband and eldest daughter. It’s wonderful to see how she lives for them and Yuris takes them for visits every couple of weeks and I think she enjoys seeing them more then even her own kids or grandchildren. She adores them and they have this special bond with her too and Simba especially. We let him go once we are in the building and he knows to wait by the elevator and exactly which door to go to once we are on her floor and I have never seen him so hyper and excited and there is nothing anyone can do to settle him down. He barks like crazy for her apartment door to open and then he is in her lap and kissing her, before she knows what hit her. From the doorway I hear her laughing and laughing hysterically and this goes on for at least 5 minutes, it’s a wonder this welcome hasn’t given her a heart attack. I have never seen Simba so nuts over anyone before, he is not even like that with us when we are away. Lily in the meantime is waiting patiently by her feet for her turn and permission to jump up. Simba doesn’t like when it’s her turn, but he has learned to share grandma and he is quick to recapture his spot on her lap once Lily has her turn. It will be interesting when your mother visits whether he is like that with elderly people or is it just something about Yuris’s mother.
I should let you go, I am just so amazed by their intelligence and there are not too many people who want to listen to how smart our dogs are, but I know you enjoy hearing about all your family of Shih Tzu’s. Thanks for listening and thanks again so much for looking after them for us. You are doing us such a big favour and I know you have said before that you don’t want payment for looking after them, but if you ever change your mind, I’d be happy to pay. Even if you never accept, I will always find some way of repaying you for the big favour you are doing for us, as I truly do appreciate the care and love you give them in our absence and of course your whole family and a special mention to Dennis too! Take care and many thanks again, Janet.

Sorry for not emailing you sooner. I was going to email you a copy of the vet’s health certificate, but having technical difficulties. I can’t figure out scanner and hubby is out of town for a couple of days. The vet said that he is very healthy. She was pleased that you had de-wormed him 4 times- she said many breeders only do it 3 times. The owner of the pet store was also very impressed with your choice of dog food- he said that many breeders will give puppy’s cheap food to keep costs down. So thanks for giving him a good start to his life. We love Max!! He has a really calm but adventurous personality. You obviously took time to socialize him well- he doesn’t seem to be frightened or nervous around people, new experiences or sounds. He seems to just go with the flow. He is curious and willing to check out his environment without unhealthy fear or hesitation. He training is going really well- still mostly going outside and sleeping in his crate all night. Thanks so much for this amazing little puppy- we will send pictures when he grows up a little. Thanks once again. Lynn
Max is fantastic- he went to bed without a peep and we didn’t hear from him again until 6:30- thanks for the extra care you have given to his training. He is such a good natured little guy and is already exploring both inside and out! He has also been pretty good so far in going outside to pee- thanks for starting the training. I have a question for you- do you need us to go to the vet within 48 or is a suggestion and is there something we should be asking for in particular or will the vet know what to check for. Thanks Lynn
Just got back from the vet. Check up went fine, everyone there loved her and her name! (Eleven) Dr. Spice thought she was a
puppy, couldn't find anything wrong, and loved the fact that she had substance to her...he's not fond of the tiny boned ones due to health issues, but he thought she might do
in the show ring if she continues to develop this nicely. She actually lost a few ounces, she was 4.1 pounds, but she's only been here a couple of days. I made her next appointment for Dec.14th for her last shots. Lorna
Hi Deb,
Steve(Jett - the kids changed his name!) is doing very well! We adore him! He is so eager to please, happy and outgoing! We would recommend your puppies to anyone looking for a Shih Tzu.
He has all his shots. He is very big! Over 9lbs at his Jan. Vet appointment. Again, a really friendly, lovable fellow. I will let you know when his papers arrive and will send copies of the vet records when he is nuetered.
Best,
Carla
Deb,
Just got home, he (Jett) was an angel the whole way home! We stopped a couple of times and he slept most of the way. Not a whimper. He has been playing chase in the backyard with Tazz and the cat is the one who is annoyed, but dealing with the new family member. Will let you know how the first night goes.
Thanks!
Carla
Debbie,
I just emailed the money to you. I have to be honest, I wanted to check up on you and your dogs first, called your vet etc. and yes - YOU are fabulous! And so are your DOGS! But you knew that already didn't you :) I am thinking I am not quite ready for him this weekend and I am a little bit under the weather to make a big trip. I will if this works best for you, otherwise next weekend would be better for me. Thinking actually to meet in Virden or Brandon after consulting a map. Yes I will reimburse for fuel. However, would you first check with the family from Regina and see if they would be willing to bring Jett with them Tuesday? If so what time they would be back in Regina for me to meet them?
Thanks.
Carla
Hi Debbie,
As a breeder myself, I know a good puppy when I see one. Arcee fits in like she was born here.
Her vet check was all thumbs up and a copy is attached, as contracts state.
She has been going on her pee-pads great, no accidents yet and is upstairs having a nap in her kennel right now, good job there also. She has no problem sleeping in her kennel, (with out whining either) I even had the door open a few times to see if she would stay in there or come out. A couple of times she stuck her head out but only to hang it over the edge, and back to sleep again. She woke up once last night around 2:00 AM, and whined a little (of coarse) to tell me she was awake. When I let her out of the kennel she relieved herself on the pad and went back into the kennel and right back to sleep again, it was great. Well trained, at such a young age of 8wks. You have done most of the work already and now I will put the finishing touches on her and she will become a good asset to the Calgary community.
She is great to play with, has all kinds of energy and is quite the laugh jumping around and trying to play with you by using her feet as if to grab you or high 5 you. Very comfortable on her back, nice to see.
Arcee has more black in her, so she is much darker than Maya right now, hope she keeps it.
She eats drinks and does her bathroom duties with ease so there is no anxiety here and Arcee has no problems with the other dogs. I haven’t introduced her to Kali yet, that’s usually a fun one because Kali is as gentle with them as if she was a puppy herself and not a 135 lb Rottweiler the size difference always makes me laugh to watch how Kali plays so gently with such a small puppy. I usually leave that till after a few days, not to much all at once.
Well Debbie she is a joy to have and will strengthen my breeding lines tremendously. Thank you so much for her.
Talk later

PS – I highly believe you get what you pay for and Arcee was worth every cent !!!
She (Gidget) has, the vet said everything looked great. She's going back in three weeks.

Dear Debbie,
I'll let you know when i get Bella S's papers. We have yet to spay her but are in the process of booking an appointment for the end of April as I have a few days off. Will let you know what that's done too.
FYI: Bella is doing fabulous! Very friendly and starting to pick up a few tricks too. Currently she is learning how to walk and stop at curbs while out for a walk and is picking things up pretty quickly!
And she's adorable to boot. I'll enclose some pics as I don't think we've sent you any updated ones.
Have a good day,
Jenn, Trev and Bella
Hi Debbie,
Maggie is doing great. She has had all her shots and her vet check went well. She is going to be a big girl, as she is already 10 lbs. She is such a sweetheart and so full of love. Training is going okay, she seems to catch on really well. She seems really happy with her new family.
Kathy
Hi Debbie
Regan’s just a “furry lightening bolt”. He never sits still for very long and is always ready to play tug-o-war with Bentley and an old sock. He’s had all his shots and the vet says he’s in good health. He weighs about 10 pounds. I’ve kept him in coat and he looks great after grooming but at his age he’s not interested in Bows and Hairclips.
At the present time, I’m not training him for show as my health is not yet back to normal. I may not show him at all. Time is just flying by……
He is housetrained and sleeps in his kennel at night with all the toys he can stuff in there, he loved it since the day we brought him home and we’ve never had a problem with him at night.
He is going to need surgery for his umbilical hernia – so after he is 6 months (closer to 7) I’m going to get the hernia repaired. I will send you a pic of him, I have hardly any where you can actually see his face – he’s too fast – but I do have one of him just home from the groomer last week. He also LOVES the snow – rolls around in it every chance he gets.
I did get the CKC papers, thanks
Shirley
Hi there – sorry to bother you so soon but I forgot to ask how much food Regan eats a day. I assume you were feeding him 3 times a day. What amount would you feed him at one time.
He certainly livened up once we got home. We let the dogs meet outside and Regan was extremely happy to see other dogs and chased Bentley around the yard barking at him. It was so cute.
Right now he’s relaxing with a chew stick in this crate and seems very happy. Thanks again for everything, he’s a treasure.
p.s. Thanks for all the goodies you packed with him – that was very nice!!
Shirley
Hi Debbie
Thank-you so much for Myrrhi, his first night went beautifully, he cried twice in the kennel at bedtime, and then that was it until 6am. He learning the house and giving Gidget and Gizmo a run for their money.
Marcya
Things are going well couldn’t be better, her name is Bella. The vet check was fine I’ll mail out the vet report or I’ll bring it to my friends house to scan so I can email it out to you.
I’ll also send you out some pictures of her, she’s so cute. She hates her kennel but she’s getting better not crying for that long , Bella goes in it around midnight until 5ish then I hear her up again
So I take her out side then she like to sleep on my shag rug in our bedroom. Any how everything is going good will talk to you soon.
Thanks,
Colleen
Hi Debbie
It has been a while since we last connected but all is great. Mimi is growing healthy and big. We will be sending you some pics of her your way. We had some problems with our digital camera charging because Miss Mimi chewed the cord and we had to fix it. Now we are able to get you some photos of her soon.
Also I want to inform you that today I put in the mail a copy of Mimi’s vet visit for her spaying, for your records. So that is all done now and as I mentioned before she is thriving and happy and we love her to bits.
Thanks for all your tender loving care for our Mimi (hugs and kisses from mimi)
We got them, thank you.
Shela’s almost ready for her spaying now, except her bottom teeth have not come out yet – we’re just waiting for that. The vet said maybe next week.
She’s doing great! – fully trained and in fact, we never really had any problems in that department. We’re very happy with her!
Thank you! Einstein is scheduled for his first grooming next week Friday. We have been fortunate enough to find a groomer (referred by our vet) minutes from our home. I am a little sad about loosing the fur but, have noticed his constant in and out of the house requests. I assume he just wants to go outside for a few minutes to cool off and then come back in with the rest of us.
Also, we have found a trainer and will hopefully start classes in January.
The kids absolutely love Einstein. It still amazes me how he has just blended into our family as if he has always been there.
Thanks again,
Just wanted to let you know that Einstein saw the vet today and everything is well. We have been enjoying him tremendously. He has proven to be an excellent family pet. He walks well on the leash and we even took him for a bike ride yesterday. He happily rode in the bike trailer with Nina. This afternoon we are off to the cottage. Einstein sleeps through the night and then goes outside to do his “thing” before getting his breakfast. Thank you so much for our new family friend!
Hi Debbie, Just a short update on our little Maggie. She is becoming one
wonderful little girl. She is very full of energy. We have solved the pee
pad problem finally. We bought what is called a Multy-Tile from a hardware
store (Totem). This are one foot square rubber pads that you conect together
to line the pee box.The openings are large enough that the pee goes thru. Her
feet don't get wet so all is well. She must be at least 7 pounds now. We
will have her at the vets Mid-Sept for her surgery. We leave for the States
at the begining of October. She has become a wonderful little traveler we
don't even need to stop for potty breaks, she pees on the run. Ha,Ha, Take
care Debbie
Hi Debbie,
Sterling is doing very well! We took him to the vet for his well check and everyone thought he was just the cutest puppy in the world. He checked out healthy and happy. I will send the physical form back to you in the mail today from our vet. His belly is fine and no scratches or anything from being outside. I will send pictures this week to you. I see that Shaq also has a new family. That must be the hard part about raising puppies. I'll talk to you soon.
Hi Debbie,
It's 3:oopm my time and we just got home. Sterling is wonderful! And such a happy go lucky puppy! He got off the plane and we finally got him at 12:45. We stopped on the way home so he could go potty, eat a little, and drink. He was very thirsty. We just got home, and he met Tommy our Hymalyan cat. He is very happy go lucky. I can't wait for the girls to meet him! I promise to keep in touch. I can't thank you enough for your patience and willingness to send him all this way!
Have a safe drive home,
Talk to you soon,

20th...

when he was waking up at 3 am ....last night we had his crate in our
room...he whined at 3 am and I stuck my finger through the crate door then
he went back to sleep.

Hi Debbie,
I know you only have Simba's best interest at heart and I didn't take it
personally. I trust your opinions and advice more then anyone as no one
cares more about his welfare then you. I think as a regular practice I will
insist on having them clean tables and scales in front of me at least until
Simba is fully vaccinated. He is just so precious that we couldn't imagine
anything happening to him and I understand you are only trying to help us
protect him. I just hope that you never are bothered by my many questions
and I truly appreciate all your quick and thorough replies. I will be so
glad when he safely survives the next few weeks and months. Thanks again,
I'm sure I'll talk to you soon.
Hi Debbie,
Simba is doing great and has picked up the house training quicker then I
thought possible. He has had 3 very successful days, no accident and now
that it is colder out he does his business quickly. He definitely has
become the prince of the house, he just has to look at us and we all melt.
He seems to have settled in quite nicely and last night at 10:00 we let him
outside for his last potty and he came in the door and went directly into
his crate. It was like he knew it was bedtime, he doesn't use the crate for
naps but prefers the floor or this little puppy bed we have for him, he is
just so smart.
Hi Debbie,
Thanks again for the great details and wow, I can't believe the items you give away in a puppy package. You really go that extra step and to me it shows your total dedication to your dogs, their puppies and the breed itself. If I didn't know before, I definitely believe now that I have found the right lady to buy my puppy from. I also know, it isn't the money that's important to you. I do think your dogs are worth the price you charge when you consider the high level of breeding, all the extra training each puppy receives, the always available advice, the puppy package. It's not an issue with me but with some people it might steer them away or they may think twice about the committment they are making and if they pay a little more then maybe they will care a little more and make sure the puppy's health and welfare is a high priority. Maybe also they will do the research and pay attention to all the ways you can help eliminate your puppy from catching diseases from other dogs. I didn't know all these things either but you can be sure I will take all the precautions. I will need to do this but it's because of love not money.
